Tokyo Kenopsia

Tokyo by night is a truly breathtaking experience. Myriads of lights in different colours illuminate the dark, while blending together into an all-embracing glow. Sometimes this intoxicating radiance of light lets me forget that I am taking photographs in the middle of the night. And with fewer counts of people outside during these late hours, I sometimes cannot help but feel that all the lights are shining just for me.

The driving force behind me seeking out this very experience to shoot Tokyo by night is the search for a specific feeling, a sensation I like to call "Emotional Liminal Space".

Liminal Space refers to the place a person is situated in during a transitional period in their life. It’s a gap, and can be physical (like a doorway), emotional (like a divorce) or metaphorical (like a decision).

With 'Kenopsia' I use an eerie definition to describe a forlorn atmosphere of a place that’s usually bustling with people, but is now laying abandoned and quiet.
